Bill Happer has been a member of Backwoods HRC for over 12 years as well as an avid waterfowl hunter for even longer. Backwoods HRC has allowed Bill to meet good friends that share the love of waterfowl hunting and retriever training. He currently lives in the Cabarrus County with his wife, Kim. They have two grown sons that also share the love of the outdoors. He has two Labrador Retriever, Samantha (Sam) and Gracie and looks for any chance to train, attend hunt test and go waterfowl hunting.
Paul has been a member of Backwoods HRC since 2013. He has enjoyed Labs around 20 years, mostly companion and some training. He was looking for a different direction as far as hunting, training and hunt test and found a great opportunity to learn within the club. He enjoys working in the club and at the training days and hunt test. He recently retired and now has more opportunities for training. He presently has two Labs, a female Gracie and a male Storm.
Don and I have been active in the “Dog Games” since our introduction to the sport with our first lab (HRCH Khaki). We first competed in NAHRA then quickly moved into HRC shortly after Backwoods Retriever Club was started. We currently have 4 labs in our home. GRHRCH “Deke” MH, , QAA2 HRCH MH “Junior”, “Cuz” MH, and our newest arrival, 5 month old “Rye”. I have served as Treasure for Backwoods HRC and have also been our Hunt Test Secretary and flight marshal several times. I have helped Don train our last 3 dogs as the “Puppy Mom” when they were young, then graduating to the official bird thrower when he needs assistance in the field. We have competed in most of the dog venues, AKC hunt tests and field trials, HRC, NAHRA, and SRS but seem to always migrate back to HRC because of the good folks we have met and been around in the last 20 years. On a side note, I have also ran a couple of our dogs, when Don was judging, and while it didn’t always go great, I had a blast.
